How it works

From a first hello to a book they’ll keep forever.

Your loved one talks. We listen, write and design. Here is every step, what it feels like, and how little it asks of you.

  1. Your free call

    10:00 am Eastern

    30 minutes, by video call

    What we’ll talk about

    • Where they grew up
    • The people who mattered most
    • How their life might divide into chapters

    With your interviewer

Step 1 Free, before week 1

    A free, friendly call

It starts with a 30-minute video call. You meet your interviewer, hear how everything works, and talk about how your storyteller might divide their life into chapters.

    • No sales pitch and no card required
    • The storyteller, you, or both can join
    • Afterwards, a personal story plan appears on your family page

Your part Answer a few quick questions and pick a time. It takes about a minute.

  2. An older man in a green cardigan and reading glasses talks with his hands to a laptop from his armchair in a book-lined living room

    Step 2 Weeks 1 to 4

    Four relaxed conversations

If you decide to go ahead, your storyteller has four recorded interviews with the same interviewer, by video call, from the comfort of home. Each one picks up where the last left off.

    • Scheduled online, at times that suit them
    • Family members are welcome to sit in
    • Recorded only with everyone’s permission

Your part Nothing, unless you’d like to join. We send reminders before every call.

  3. Vintage family photographs and a shoebox of prints spread on a wooden table while hands photograph one print with a smartphone

    Step 3 Weeks 1 to 5

    Add the family photos

Upload photos to your family page from a phone or computer. Old prints are fine: a photo taken with your phone works well. We place each one beside the story it belongs to.

    • Anyone in the family can add photos
    • Wedding pictures, school portraits, faded snapshots
    • Stored privately, never shared

Your part Choose a handful of favorites, whenever it suits you.

  4. Chapter three

    The house on Maple Street

We had one bathroom and six children, so you learned to be quick. My mother sang in the kitchen every morning, always the same two songs, and always a little off-key. I didn’t know then how much I would miss that.

    Step 4 Weeks 3 to 8

    Written in their own words

Our writers turn the conversations into chapters that sound like your storyteller, not like us. AI-assisted tools help us transcribe and draft. Every page is then shaped and checked by a human editor.

    • Their phrases, their humor, their way of telling it
    • Chapters that read like a book, not a transcript
    • Something not quite right? Tell us and we’ll fix it

Your part Nothing at all, unless something needs changing. Then just tell us.

  5. A sample spread, for illustration

    Step 5 Weeks 6 to 9

    Designed like a treasured book

Our designers lay out every chapter with your photos, and a cover with your storyteller’s name. It should feel like a treasured family book, even on a screen.

    • Classic, easy-to-read type
    • Photos beside the stories they belong to
    • A contents page, like a real book

Your part Take a look. If anything should change, tell us.

  6. A sample digital book, for illustration

    Step 6 Weeks 8 to 10

A book to keep and share

The finished book appears on your family page as a page-turning digital book. Download it to keep forever and share it with everyone in the family. Basic is a digital book. Printed copies come with our larger packages.

    • Read it on any phone, tablet or computer
    • Download the book file to keep
    • Share it with relatives near and far

Your part Open it, read it, enjoy it. That’s all.

It all starts with one free conversation.

For the storyteller

If you’re the one telling the story

You don’t need to be a good writer, or even a good talker. You just need to remember.

Want to ask a person first? Email us at hello@vyvlio.com Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm Eastern

  • It feels like a visit

Your interviewer starts with easy, happy memories and follows your lead. It’s a conversation, not a test.

  • Nothing to prepare

No homework and no writing. If you like, keep a few old photos nearby. They help memories come back.

  • Shy? That’s perfectly normal

You never have to talk about anything you’d rather keep private. You can skip a question or come back to it another day.

  • Family is welcome

A son, daughter or grandchild can sit in, especially for the first conversation. Or you can talk one to one.

  • No computer needed

A phone or tablet works fine, and a family member can sit beside you to help.
