Draft for legal review. This is a plain-English draft that Vyvlio’s lawyer is still reviewing, so the wording may change. Words highlighted like this are details we have not confirmed yet.
The short version
- The free call is free. You only pay if you decide to go ahead.
- Your stories, recordings and photos stay yours. We use them only to make your book.
- Everyone on a recorded call must agree to the recording, every time.
- You read and approve the book before it is finished.
- If you are not happy with your book, we rewrite it, and if it still isn’t right, we refund you in full.
The full text below is what counts. It’s written to be read, in plain English.

1. About these terms
These terms of service are an agreement between you and Vyvlio LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (“Vyvlio”, “we”, “us”). They cover our website, your family page, and the life-story book service we provide.
“You” means the person who creates an account or buys a package. “Storyteller” means the person whose life story the book tells. Sometimes that is the same person.
By creating an account, booking a call or buying a package, you agree to these terms. If you buy for someone else, please make sure they are happy to take part. Our privacy policy, refund policy and recording consent policy are part of these terms.
Vyvlio serves families in the United States. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or buy a package.
2. What we provide
Our service has six parts:
- A free discovery call of about 30 minutes by video, where you meet your interviewer and sketch out the chapters of a life.
- Recorded interviews with the same interviewer, by video call. The number of interviews depends on the package you choose.
- Family photos that you upload to your family page.
- Writing and editing. Our writers turn the interviews into chapters in the storyteller’s own voice, with help from AI-assisted tools, and a human editor checks every page.
- Design. We lay out the text and photos as a book.
- Delivery of a digital, page-turning book on your family page that you can download, plus printed copies when your package includes them.
Each package’s contents and price are shown on our packages page when you buy. We may improve the service over time, but we will not reduce what you have already paid for.
3. Your account and family page
There are no passwords. You sign in with your email, and we send you a one-time code or a sign-in link. Please keep access to your email secure, because anyone who can read it can sign in to your family page.
Each family page can have two contacts: the buyer and the storyteller. Both can sign in with their own email and see everything on the family page, including recordings, photos and drafts. Please only add someone you are comfortable sharing all of this with.
Please give us accurate contact details and keep them up to date, so we can reach you about calls, drafts and delivery.
4. Prices and payment
Prices are in US dollars and are shown before you pay. Any sales tax that applies is added at checkout. You pay once for the package; there are no hidden fees.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Your order is confirmed when the payment succeeds and we send you a receipt by email.
If we change our prices, the change does not affect a package you have already paid for.
If we ever offer you an optional extra, such as additional interviews or extra printed copies, we will tell you its price and terms before you agree to it.
5. Gifts
You can buy a package as a gift. You tell us the recipient’s name and email, an optional personal message, and the date we should tell them. You receive a receipt and a gift certificate you can print or forward.
On the date you choose, we email the recipient. They answer a few short questions and book their first interview. The package is already paid for.
Gifts do not expire. If the recipient does not want to take part, you can give the gift to someone else or ask for a refund under our refund policy. Refunds for gifts go to the buyer.
6. Scheduling the interviews
You book interviews on your family page. All times are shown in your local time zone. Interviews take place by video call, on a phone, tablet or computer.
You can reschedule an interview from your family page or by emailing us. Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice when you can. If an interview is missed, we will simply help you find a new time.
We ask that all interviews are completed within 12 months of purchase. If life gets in the way, talk to us and we will work something out.
If your interviewer becomes unavailable, we will introduce you to another interviewer and make sure they know your story so far.
7. Recording the interviews
We record interviews so our writers can capture the storyteller’s real voice and words. Some US states require every person on a call to agree to it being recorded, so we follow that rule everywhere.
We ask for consent when you book interviews and again, out loud, at the start of every call. If someone else joins, we ask them too. If you invite someone to a call, please let them know it will be recorded.
Anyone can ask to pause the recording or say something “off the record” at any time. Our recording consent policy explains how this works and how recordings are stored and deleted.
8. Who owns the stories and the book
Your stories stay yours. The storyteller’s words, the recordings, and the photos you upload belong to you and your family. You give us permission to use them only to make your book and to provide our service, including sharing them with the service providers who help us do that, as described in our privacy policy.
The book is yours to keep and share. You may download it, print it, copy it and share it with family and friends as much as you like. If you would like to publish or sell it, please talk to us first, because our designs and layouts are part of it.
What stays ours. Vyvlio keeps the rights in our website, software, book templates, designs and the way we work. Using our service does not transfer those to you.
No advertising without permission. We will never use your stories, recordings, photos or book in our marketing unless you give us written permission, and you can withdraw that permission at any time.
When you upload photos or other material, you confirm that you have the right to share them with us for this purpose.
9. What goes in the book
A Vyvlio book is a personal memoir. We write down what the storyteller remembers, in their words. We do not fact-check memories, and the book reflects the storyteller’s own view of events.
Stories often mention other people. Please be thoughtful about private details of living people. We may suggest leaving something out, and we may decline to include content that is unlawful, defamatory, or hateful.
The storyteller decides what is included. Anything can be left out at any time before the book is approved.
10. Reviewing and approving the book
You read the draft chapters on your family page, leave comments, and approve each one. We make changes until it reads right. When the whole book is ready, you approve the final version.
Once you approve the final version, we prepare it for download and, if your package includes printed copies, send it to print. Changes after approval may not be possible for printed copies already made.
If we made a mistake, such as a name we misspelled even though you gave it to us correctly, we fix it at no cost, including reprinting.
11. Delivery and shipping
Your digital book appears on your family page, where you can read it and download it. Please download a copy to keep; it is your best long-term backup.
Printed copies, when your package includes them, ship to addresses in the US only. You confirm the delivery address on your family page. We tell you the expected delivery date before you approve the final book.
If a printed copy arrives damaged, has a printing defect, or is lost in transit, tell us within 30 days of the expected delivery date and we will replace it at no cost.
12. Our promise and refunds
Love your book, or your money back. If you are not happy with your book, tell us. We will rewrite and redesign until it feels right, and if it still doesn’t, we refund you in full.
You can also cancel before your first interview for a full refund. The details, including when each refund applies and how to ask, are in our refund policy.
13. Using our website fairly
Please don’t misuse our website or service. For example, don’t:
- upload anything unlawful, or anything you don’t have the right to share;
- try to access another family’s page or our systems without permission;
- interfere with the website, or use automated tools to copy it;
- use the service to harass, threaten or deceive anyone.
We may pause or close an account that breaks these rules. If we do, we will tell you why, and refund any part of the service we have not provided, unless the law says otherwise.
14. What we promise, and what we can’t
We promise to provide the service with care and skill, as described on our website and in these terms. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, the website and service are provided “as is”.
We work hard to keep the website and your family page available and safe, but we cannot promise they will always be free of interruptions or errors.
15. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, Vyvlio’s total liability to you for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited by agreement. Some states do not allow certain limits on liability, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
16. Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by contacting us. Our refund policy explains what refund applies, and our privacy policy explains what we delete and when.
Before you close your account, please download your book. Once your account is closed, we cannot restore your files.
17. If something goes wrong
Please talk to us first. Email hello@vyvlio.com. Most problems can be solved with a conversation, and we will try in good faith to put things right within 30 days.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If we cannot resolve a dispute, either of us may bring a claim in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, or in a small claims court where you live.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will show the date of the latest version at the top of this page, and email you about important changes before they take effect. Changes never apply to a package you have already paid for in a way that takes something away from you.
